The evolving story of a boy.
Lenka | Blinded by Love
The lyrics, her execution, even the subtle qualities in her voice kind of tugs at the strings of my heart.
Soul in Italiano. Baby.
Song 2 | The Graves’ Say it in a Song
Michael K. said it best: “Lana sounded like a Japanese person trying to sing in English with a German accent.”
I think I’ll call this her audition to play a young effeminate Voldemort. I’m sure it sounds great on the album. And I’m not saying she sounds bad. At 4:05 she sounds kinda like Gwen Stefani for two seconds before she switches to the next voice.
I was reading Youtube comments about this performance and all I have to say about the comments is this: saying she doesn’t sound TOO bad is NOT a compliment.
Song 19/365 - Faster by Rachael Yamagata
Rachael Yamagata’s double album Elephants… Teeth Sinking into Heart is SOLID. And while the Elephant’s eponymous title track is wrought with heartbreak and emotion, Teeth Sinking into Heart’s disc has the fun track “Faster”. It’s an ass kick then strut track, and we all hate to admit it - but a song with attitude is just so fucking good. So satisfying.
Song 8/365 - Experimental Love by Natalie Walker
This song reminds me of this recipe I like to use for some reason. I’d say I made it up but it’s butter, grana, and truffle. It’s like saying I discovered sautéing garlic first. Anyway like the song, this dish is pretty, simple, and a great overall experience.
Papardelle al Tartufo Bianco
100 grams of unsalted butter.
1 white truffle
Grated Grana cheese (Parmesan if you like. but grana is perfect - if at an italian market ask for “grana grattugiato”)
You can acquire papardelle any way you like, the focus is on making sure to not burn the butter in this recipe as it would draw the attention away from the white truffle. It doesn’t even have to be papardelle, a fettucine will be just fine.
Melt butter in medium heat once melted leave sit until the butter begins to turn into a darker golden colour, using a finer grater shave some of the white truffle into the butter. Toss your papardelle into the butter and start adding desired amount of grana, when plating you can shave thicker shavings of your white truffle at the table. In this recipe, less is more when it comes to white truffle. That said, if looking for greens to serve with, asparagus would not harm or remove any attention from the truffle.
DO NOT use garlic. It only draws away from the white truffle. If the grana is not doing it for you, a smidgen of salt go for it (if you’ve got truffle salt, even better).
Song 2/365 - Kissed It by Macy Gray feat. Velvet Revolver
Macy Gray. Velvet Revolver. I don’t need to sell it. It’s a whole lot of attitude, and with good reason: it’s a well put together track. While it’s not as infectious as what’s out there, it’s cozy because of her vocals - yet strut worthy with the beats. Macy Gray never quite broke out as much as she should have but I feel that she broke out enough to make her voice recognizable to all. This just makes her our not so well kept “secret”.
Wow. My zombie movie has a fucking awesome soundtrack.
1. Eric Hutchison - Food Chain
Opening credits, perhaps on subway, then a brisk run to school - running late. Professor berates me in class again.
2. Adele - Turning Tables
My professor, who’s been really hard on me, gets bitten. I drag him to safety, he reveals that he’s been a dick because he sees much more in me than my output. He begins to turn. We fight. He dies. Love interest walks in on me and we both look out the window. The concentration is getting higher as more people get bitten.
3. Stars - Take Me to the Riot
Love interest, I, best friend, and friends and strangers arm ourselves with what we can find and try to break out of school. Love interest is bitten. Flashback to a Stars concert where we are dancing to this song and meet for the first time which is edited with footage of our eventual escape. The group has shrunken to a group of 13, five of whom have to be killed or kill themselves as they have been bitten.
4. Rachael Yamagata - Elephants
Love interest is starting to turn, I convince them fall asleep in my arms. I take a pillow to their face. Rewind to the same concert - where we share our first kiss. Thereafter their struggle to fight the pillow off goes as they just go limp, I begin to walk away with flashbacks in the form of a montage but then the camera pans to my love interest who has reanimated with the sad look on her face that she died with. I grab my bat. History. Best friend has to take bat away from me because I don’t stop. Best friend and I embrace.
5. Macy Gray - She Ain’t Right for You
My best friend consoles me, they’ve been there for me from the start. I start to see them in a new light.
6. Danger Mouse & Danielle Luppi - Two Against One
I receive a call from my parents urging you to head (destination) - where there is safe ground. I arrive near the entrance and there is an insane concentration of zombies before the screening point. I battle and I make it. Group is whittled down into three people including myrself.
7. N.E.R.D. - Sooner or Later
I make it to the screening point, where I have flashbacks of me and my best friend having romantic moments and I never realize. They’ve been making advances on me for months. We finally share a kiss that’s been in the making for ages.
8. Mumford & Sons - Little Lion Man
I get pulled back by the screening guards, me and my new love interest fight to be together but it’s too late. Then I feel a stinging sensation on the back of my arm, I fight off the guards and see that my arm has a bite. As the gate slowly closes my heart breaks as my love interest looks back at me helplessly.
End credits conclude with me running as I was in the beginning. As I begin to turn I jump from a cliff. At the bottom my original love interest is seen walking - not staggering.
Fin.

Quiet Dog Bite Hard by Mos Def
This is an AMAZING song with one of the most infectious beats I had heard in ages at the time I heard it (2009) - and it remains true. And like a good song it’s scope is vast. It’s good for focus, intensity, velocity (a downhill bike ride - try it), or if you’re chillin’ and simply need something to nod your head to.
Enjoy.
